Daniel Cammish has claimed a double pole position at Snetterton for rounds nine and ten of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB.
The Yorkshireman piloted his 991 –Type Porsche GT3 Cup car to the top of the times on his third lap with a time of 1:51.106, setting two purple sectors before it was removed for track limits. Undeterred by the infringement, Dan went even faster in his Nationwide, PPG Paint backed car the following lap.
“I don’t know where I lost the lap because I’m adamant that I didn’t go off,” said Dan. “Maybe it was a kerb, I don’t know but the lap was slower than my next lap which got me pole. It certainly wasn’t an improvement in lap time to do it.”
Not only was his next lap an improvement but Dan set a new circuit record, clocking a time of 1:50.998, beating Josh Webster’s 2014 best of 1:51.085. Having made his point, he pitted for a change of tyres and to watch the rest of the field as the order settled down.
With ten minutes to go he rejoined the circuit and put the pole position out of reach of the others with yet another fastest time, reducing the lap record to 1:50.834.
“It’s a great start to the weekend,” said Dan. “We had a great car on Wednesday and a great car on Friday. It’s very hot today, it’s the hottest we’ve had actually and the track temperature certainly made the car feel a little different. I knew we had the speed if we hooked it up and Josh has done a good lap to be P2 and only two tenths off. It’s a bit too close for comfort but I know we’ve got a great race car to do a similar speed throughout the race. Our drop off doesn’t seem to be too bad so I’m really looking forward to tomorrow.”
The first race tomorrow will commence at 10.45 with the second race stating at 17.40.
